NAM Document against US Blockade of Cuba Circulated at the UN

UNITED NATIONS, October 15, 2009. A declaration by the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) against the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba was distributed today at the United Nations headquarters at the request of Egypt, –the country that currently chairs this organization of third world countries.

The permanent representative of Egypt, Maged Abdelaziz requested UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, that the document adopted at a summit held in July in the city of Sharm el-Sheij be distributed among UN representatives.

The title of the document is "Special Declaration of the NAM’s Heads of State and Government on the Need of Putting an End to the Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade Imposed by the United States of America on Cuba.

The text reiterates the summit’s rejection of the adoption and implementation of coercive, unilateral and extraterritorial measures, laws or other illegal measures contrary to international law, aimed at exerting pressure on NAM countries so they can’t exercise their right to freely choose their own political, economic and social systems.
